TRISH STRATUS

From wrestling champion and fitness icon to television personality and entrepreneur, few people can claim as diverse and successful a career as Trish Stratus. A record-setting seven time World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Women’s Champion, Stratus is one of the most successful professional athletes in sports entertainment. Combining beauty and brawn, she embodied the rise of the ‘WWE Diva’ as a cultural phenomenon. After seven years, Stratus retired from the world of sports entertainment in 2006. As champion, she took her final bow at the Air Canada Centre in front of 20,000 hometown fans and set a Guinness World Record for most wins by a female wrestling champion. In 2013, Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame

Following her retirement, Stratus continued to work in television starring in CBS’s Armed and Famous opposite Jack Osbourne and Erik Estrada; the following year, Stratus showed off her comedic talents as the host of the CBC show The Second City’s Next Comedy Legend. Stratus dazzled not only the television audiences but the live audience when she hosted Canada’s Walk of Fame, opening the show with a Broadway-style singing and dancing number.

In 2008, Stratus officially launched her lifestyle brand with a number of projects under the Stratusphere banner, including a travel show produced for Discovery HD and Travel + Escape. Stratus’ on-going endeavours, from her yoga studios to her line of yoga fitness products and yoga DVDs, all reflect her brand’s core philosophy of achieving wellness through balanced living.

Years before her television and WWE days, Stratus was a pre-med student, majoring in biology and kinesiology at York University with plans to become a doctor. However, a professor’s strike in 1997 halted those plans. But as they say, when one door closes, another opens. Shortly thereafter Stratus was discovered by publishing mogul, Robert Kennedy, who signed her to an exclusive contract and gave Stratus her first cover. To date, she has appeared on the cover of 100 magazines including FLARE, Oxygen, Inside Fitness, Today’s Bride, TV Guide and Toronto Life.

Stratus made her feature film debut in 2012, starring in the action movie Bounty Hunters. Her next film is slated for a 2015 release. Trish stars alongside Danny Glover and Dominic Purcell in Gridlocked.
